Bullying is a physical, verbal, sexual or cyber form of torment to intimidate or abuse an individual. Bullying is always spoken about in day to day life, whether you are suffering from bullying, whether you’re a student being told that bullying isn’t tolerated or whether you have read a recent article about an individual committing suicide due to bullying.

Bullying can happen to anybody of any age, background, gender, class, religion, race or sexuality. At least every person during their life time would have been a victim of bullying, which is heartbreaking. There are four different types of bullying which are:

  • Physical – physical bullying can be the worst type of bullying. The individual will endure punches, kicks, things thrown at them and any sort of bullying that will hurt them physically. Physical bullying is face to face and can cause the individual to feel shameful for what has just happened to them, and intimidated by the individual who has just bullied them.
  • Verbal – Verbal bullying can happen anywhere, at any time whether you’re walking through a street, whether you’re in a classroom or whether you are working. Verbal bullying happens when the bully says it to the victims face, it happens in front of the individual and can hurt the most as the individual can feel belittled.
  • Sexual – sexual bullying is any bullying behaviour, whether physical or non-physical, that is based on a person’s sexuality or gender.Sexual bullying isn’t spoken about as often as it should be.
  • Cyber – Over the last 10 years cyberbullying has become the most common form of bullying. One of the main issues with cyberbullying is that is is constantly happening 24/7. Cyber bullying consists of sending threats, saying nasty comments or posting unacceptable images of an individual (Revenge Porn).

Everybody will face some sort of bullying during their life time, whether it be in school, a job, on the street or by friends, partners or family. Sadly most victims don’t speak up about being bullied as they may feel that they will be perceived as weak, stupid or different. There are many laws and rules in place to ensure that bullying isn’t tolerated but sometimes this isn’t enough.

I have endured bullying for most of my life, when I was in Primary school I got bullied for wearing glasses and having goofy teeth, as a result of this I got called a lot of names, I had footballs kicked at me and I got my glasses snapped on a few occasions. As soon as I got into secondary school my experience with bullying changed dramatically, I got hit, punched, verbally abused whilst in school because I was ‘Butch, gay, transgender, feminine, fat, ugly, a truck driver, a tranny’ and the list goes on. The worst part of being bullied was the fact that it didn’t end once school did, I would go home and see messages online, statuses aimed at me simply because I am different. Being bullied hurts, being bullied has ruined my self confidence but I will never let it ruin who I am as a person.

If you are a bully, stop for a second and imagine what that individual is going through. Bullying isn’t going to get you anywhere, it doesn’t help you get friends, it doesn’t help you get a better job and it doesn’t help you in anything. Bullying someone can cause serious affects, the individual may have a low self esteem, suicidal thoughts, they may self harm or actually commit suicide. Stand back, and take a look at that individual because you never know what is happening in their life daily and what you say or do, may tip them over the edge.

If you are being bullied, remember you are loved by me, you are beautiful, you are perfect, yes you’re different but wouldn’t the world be boring if we was all the same?. Report the bullying to your local police, education system or to an individual you trust. I promise, life will get better. ‘Hold On Pain Ends – HOPE’
