“Why don’t straight people have a straight pride?”

Do you get murdered for loving men/women?

Do you get murdered because you identifying as the person you wasn’t biologically assigned?

Do you get raped because of your sexual orientation?

Do you get raped because of your gender identity?

Do you get abused because of your sexual orientation?

Do you get bullied because of your sexual orientation?

Do you get bullied because of your gender identity?

Do you get attacked because of your sexual orientation?

Do you get attacked because of your gender identity?

Do you get kicked out of your own home because of your sexual orientation?

Do you get kicked out of your own home because of your gender identity?

Do you get discriminated against because of your sexual orientation?

Do you get discriminated against because of your gender identity?

Have you ever got treated like a prisoner because of your sexual orientation?

Have you ever got treated like a prisoner because of your gender identity?

On a daily basis do you get labelled as a “faggot”, “lesbo” , “tranny”, “gender bender”, “leso”, “gay boy” etc.?

If you answered no to all of the above then that is probably why you don’t have a straight pride. Gay/lesbian/bisexual/non binary/transgender individuals have been murdered, raped, attacked, made homeless and have been bullied on a daily basis because of something they cannot help. Gay pride is to show society that it is okay to love the same gender and identify as the person you truly are, even if it isn’t correct to your assigned gender at birth. Whether an individual loves men or women, identifies as a male or female or neither, nobody has the right to hate them for it. Society needs to learn that love is love regardless of gender, age, disability, race and religion.

We need pride to show that everybody is equal and to also celebrate how far the LGBT+ community has come over the last 50 years.
